Colts Fall in Five Sets to Surge

Colts Fall in Five Sets to Surge

SCARBOROUGH, ONTARIO - The Centennial Colts fell in a hard-fought five-set battle against the newly formed St. Lawrence Surge. After a rough 25–14 loss in the opening set, the Colts bounced back to win the next two, taking control of the match. However, momentum shifted late in the fourth when leading scorer Jaque Ronquillo went down with an injury. Questionable double-contact calls and unforced errors began to pile up, allowing the Surge to claw back and steal the fourth set.

Fueled by that comeback, St. Lawrence carried their energy into the decisive fifth, outlasting Centennial 15–10. Despite leading much of the afternoon, the Colts' inconsistent passing and communication breakdowns proved costly. Several missed serve receptions resulted in easy aces for the Surge, who played remarkably clean volleyball for such a new team.

The loss marks Centennial's second straight defeat after back-to-back wins in Ottawa. Coach Andrews expressed frustration postgame, noting that while officiating played a role, his team's lack of communication was the real issue. But ever the positive coach, he's confident that his team can perform if they can just pull all the pieces together and play consistently.

The Colts look to regroup this Friday when they head downtown to face the George Brown Huskies, who split last season's series with Centennial.
