(Scarborough, Ontario) – On Saturday afternoon in an OCAA playoff cross-over game, the Fanshawe Women's Volleyball team (10-8) took on our Centennial Colts (10-8) in contest to see who would move forward towards the OCAA Women's Volleyball championship. the Centennial team took the road trip down the 401 to London Ontario to face up against their foes. The team put forth a valiant effort however it was not enough as they were defeated in three straight sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-20).
Fanshawe started the game on a 4-0 run including a pair of kills by outside hitter Meghan Morelli. Centennial didn't back down and came back scoring six straight to take the lead 10-6. things were looking up for Centennial when Allysha Couch had the Falcons within two, 12-10 with Back-to-Back kills. As the contest went back and forth the Falcons went up 16-15. The Falcons then scores another three straight and the Colts called a timeout to calm things down and to regroup. Down the stretch Fanshawe's serve were too strong, as they finished the game on a 10-2 run to take the set 25-18.
In the second matchup of the day the Falcons jumped out in front once again scoring the first four points of the set. This was do or die and the Colts came kicking back taking the lead 7-6. The contest was set once again to be a back and forth affair with the question looming who would take the match. Fanshawe's offense was on fire with a number of kills by Morelli and Darian Gropp. With Fanshawe leading 23-15, the Colts mounted another comeback, however it was too little, too late as the Falcons took the second set 25-20.
The match was over but the battel was not yet won. The third set started and the Colts took the lead this time going up 6-5. The game remained close but any time the Colts scored Fanshawe seemed to answer right back with points of their own. The Falcons led by as many as eight late in the set but Centennial wouldn't give up. The Colts closed the gap to five but the match, contest and battle ended with Fanshawe taking the 3rd and final set by a score of 25-20 and the eventual battle 3-0.
Centennial's Mari Pikkov had 13 points with 11 kills, 29 total attacks, 1 ace, and 1 block. Tryscelle Lin had 11 points with 10 kills, 35 total attacks, and 1 block, Kadeisha Powell-Graham had 4 assists and 11 digs.
