The Colt's Women's Soccer team returned to Progress Campus after two games on the road.
Despite having the clearest chances throughout the game, Centennial coundln't find the back of the net, ending up with a scoreless draw against Loyalist College Saturday afternoon.
For coach Rich Hirst, the team played beautifully and controlled a large part of the match, even though they didn't have too much time to prepare their plan. "We entered the game looking for a different result, but being our first year and only five weeks in, the girls are improving each day," said Hirst once the 90 minutes were over. "The schedule in the OCAA is very tight, you play a game, have a couple of days to recover, and when you are next to the next one." This was the first time the Colts tied in the 2021 season, having obtained two victories and two losses in their previous four games.
Getting one point out of this encounter is not bad, as it means the team is still in a playoff spot at the moment. However, considering that the Lancers were undergoing a three-game-lost streak, the overall feeling when the referee blew his whistle was that Centennial had let go two very valuable points.
From the very beginning, Hirst' side showed a very offensive proposal, pushing their defensive line very close to the centre of the pitch.
This allowed players like Jessa Braun and Emily Cullen to focus much more on attack than on defense. They constantly played to the sides and moved towards the box to have superiority over Loyalist's defenders, but would also try to filter passes looking to find Nailah Rowe. The striker is currently the team top scorer with seven goals in five games, placing her second in the entire league.
Sadly for the Colts, she was very well referenced by the defense of the Belleville side, constantly falling in the offside trap. There were many moments in the match where she was visibly frustrated for not being able to finalize the chances she had.
Centennial now places third in the Eastern League, following Durham's 3-1 victory over Fleming at Sutherland Campus.
The Lords will visit Colts' Pitch on Tuesday at 6 PM for a key match in the fight for second place. A victory from Hirst's team will have them taking that spot from their rivals, securing a place in the playoffs.
