Colts Push Defending East Champs to the Brink, Fall in OT Thriller

The Centennial Colts pushed the defending OCAA East Division Champion Wolves to overtime on Sunday afternoon, falling 87–77 in a thrilling showdown that highlighted just how competitive and dangerous this young Colts team truly is.

Centennial came out with purpose, forcing the Wolves into the penalty within the first six minutes of the first quarter thanks to relentless pressure and fearless attacking. That intensity also put fifth-year veteran Cianah Miller into early foul trouble, limiting the Wolves' ability to play their trademark aggressive defence. With the momentum in their hands, the Colts confidently ran their offence and matched them possession for possession.

The Colts looked ready to seize a statement victory, building a six-point lead with three minutes to play in the fourth quarter. Although Wolves star Taryn Mitchell hit two late threes to force overtime — part of a standout triple-double performance (33 points, 11 rebounds, 12 assists) — Centennial continued to show composure and fight well beyond their years.

Centennial's own stars shone throughout the afternoon.

  • Rookie guard Dajah Lennox led the way with 24 points, three triples, and six steals in a breakout performance.

  • Rookie scoring leader Dealijandra Gomes added 16 and once again provided steady offensive production, even while managing foul trouble.

  • Veteran forward Mikayla Simon-Tucker dominated the paint with 11 points and 16 rebounds and nearly won the game at the line, but unfortunately went 1-for-2 with 18 seconds left to send the contest to overtime.

In OT, a few tough breaks and fatigue caught up to the young Colts, and the Wolves capitalized with a 10–0 run to escape with the win. But the message was clear: Centennial can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the Division.

By the Numbers

Even in defeat, the Colts showed major signs of growth and outperformed the defending East Division champs in several key areas:

  • Rebounding: A commanding 46–38 advantage on the glass

  • Steals: A turnover-creating clinic, winning 22–17

  • Defensive pressure: Constant disruption of one of the league's most experienced offences

Though free throws (45%) and a handful of late turnovers proved costly, the overall performance was one of Centennial's strongest of the season.
