Colts Bounce Back to Take Down the Surge in Straight Sets

SCARBOROUGH, ONTARIO - All cylinders were firing last night as the Colts bounced back from a tough 3-0 loss to the Canadore Panthers, defeating the Surge in three straight sets.

The Surge is a newly formed team, having rejoined the OCAA after a two-decade absence. As with all new programs, it takes time to establish a culture, recruit players, and develop a competitive foundation. Unfortunately for the Surge, those growing pains continue, as they now sit at 0-4 to start the season.

From the opening serve, it was all Colts. After being outplayed by the Panthers the night before, the team shook off the loss like water off a duck's back. They controlled the tempo early, showing more cohesion, communication, and composure. Passes connected, blocks landed, and service errors were minimized, a noticeable improvement across the board.

The match also allowed Coach Timpson to get a look at some of his bench players, with regular starters such as Ruslan Delawar and Nolan Tuck getting the game off. Walk-on standout Trevor Way continued to impress, while rookies Juwel Paul and Ethan Meacham dominated the middle blocker position, coming up with key defensive plays that kept momentum firmly in the Colts' favour.

Setter Ryan Do also looked increasingly comfortable running the offence. Formerly a libero with his club team, the Thundercats, Do struggled against the size of the Canadore Panthers the night before, but he bounced back with several terrific assists that proved critical to the Colts' offensive rhythm.

The Colts will look to extend their winning streak to two next Friday night when they head downtown to face the George Brown Huskies. The Huskies swept both matchups against the Colts last season, but with several key departures and a 1-3 start this year, the Colts will be eager to turn the tables.
