Centennial Colts Dominate Defending Champs, Take Down Durham Lords in Statement Win

The Centennial Colts made a loud statement Tuesday night, dismantling the defending OCAA East Division champion Durham Lords 95–63 in front of a charged home crowd.

It was a long time coming; the win marks the Colts' first victory over Durham since 2022, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Now sitting at 3–2 on the season, Centennial appears to be finding its rhythm after a pair of early-season heartbreakers — a last-minute loss to Georgian and a cold shooting night against Seneca.

On Tuesday, however, everything fell into place. The Colts played their most complete game of the year, showing what happens when their deep, talented roster is fully in sync. "We've been talking about putting together a full 40 minutes," said head coach Chester Taylor. "Tonight, the guys locked in — defensively, offensively, and as a unit. This is who we can be."

Balanced Attack Fuels Blowout

Centennial lit up the scoreboard, shooting 54.7% from the field and an impressive 45% from three-point range. While free throws (60%) left room for improvement, the rest of the stat sheet told the story of a dominant night.

A program record seven players scored in double figures, led by Samuel Wong and Mateo Spencer-Gomes with 15 points apiece. The balanced scoring and unselfish ball movement overwhelmed Durham from the opening tip.

Off the bench, Abdalmuhaymin Sudani provided a huge spark, posting 14 points in 18 minutes on 70% shooting. He brought relentless energy to the glass, securing multiple offensive rebounds and keeping plays alive for second-chance buckets.

Defensively, the Colts were locked in — outrebounding Durham and closing possessions strong. The Lords were held to one shot on most trips, struggling to find any rhythm against Centennial's pressure.

Momentum Shift

For a program looking to prove it belongs among the OCAA's elite, this was more than just a win - it was a statement. The Colts showed maturity, balance, and confidence that could define the rest of their season.

When this team is moving the ball, defending together, and playing at pace, they look every bit like contenders. Tuesday night was proof that the Colts can beat anyone when they're firing on all cylinders.

Next Up

Centennial hits the road Saturday, November 15, to face the Fleming Phoenix in Peterborough — the first meeting of the season between the two programs. Fleming has shown major improvement this season, but the Colts will look to keep their hot hand and team play going
