VAUGHAN, ONTARIO – The Centennial Colts women's soccer team secured their third consecutive silver medal at the OCAA Indoor Soccer Championships yesterday, falling to the Seneca Sting in a dramatic penalty shootout.
While the podium finish marks a period of sustained success not seen by the program in nearly two decades, the result was bittersweet. The Colts were chasing their first indoor gold medal in exactly 20 years, but the Sting—motivated by a 2-1 loss to the Colts during the outdoor soccer championships—thwarted those ambitions to claim the title.
The Colts opened the scoring early in the first half when captain Nailah Rowe carved through the Sting's back line and unleashed a clinical strike to put Centennial ahead. For much of the match, the Colts maintained control, dictating the pace and stifling Seneca's attack.
However, the Sting found a lifeline with just seven minutes remaining in regulation, netting an equalizer to force extra time. After two scoreless overtime periods, the championship was decided at the penalty spot. The Seneca keeper proved to be the hero, making three massive saves during the shootout to seal the victory and leave the Colts with their third straight silver.
Despite the heartbreaking finish, the silver medal solidifies Centennial's status as a perennial powerhouse in the indoor circuit.
