Centennial College Hosts OCAA Annual Meeting and Celebrates Hall of Fame Inductee

Toronto, Ontario –  Earlier this week, Centennial College and the Colts proudly welcomed Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) members for the association's Annual Meeting. This key event brings together institutions from across the province to collaborate on policy development, strategic planning, and initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality and governance of collegiate athletics.

This year's meeting held special significance, coinciding with the biennial OCAA Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Hosting the evening's event was Centennial College and Colts alumnus Jack Middleton, a former Colts baseball player and the voice of Colts Athletics game day broadcasts for the past two years. The evening began with a performance by Abigail Elisha, a singer and performer from Centennial's Music Industry Arts and Performance program, setting an inspiring tone for the celebration.

Among the 30 inductees—primarily former student-athletes—the Colts were thrilled to celebrate one of their own: Joan Healey, who was inducted under the Builder category.

The Builder category honours individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the growth and development of the OCAA through roles such as executive committee members, convenors, and committee chairs. Joan Healey exemplifies this spirit. As a Centennial College student and employee with over 30 years of dedicated service to Colts Athletics and the OCAA, she played a pivotal role in shaping varsity and campus recreation programs. Her leadership included serving as the Women's Basketball Convenor and contributing to the Ontario Collegiate Recreation Committee, among many other roles.

In her heartfelt acceptance speech, Joan reflected on overcoming challenges faced by women in sport, expressing deep gratitude for the strong network of female colleagues and mentors who worked alongside her to elevate women's athletics across Ontario at the college level. She also acknowledged the tremendous support she received from Centennial College throughout her career.

Joan's induction marks a significant moment in Centennial's athletic history, as it is the first Hall of Fame recognition for a member of the Colts since Nathaniel Allard, two-time OCAA badminton gold medalist, was inducted as an athlete in 2017.

Centennial College extends its warmest congratulations to Joan Healey and all 2025 OCAA Hall of Fame inductees.
